Mary Hovland, founding partner of The Mary & Cathy Team, has been working in real estate for Long and Foster in Northern Virginia since 2005.
Mary, raised in a naval military family, has lived all over the country. She received a BS in accounting from the University of Florida and an MBA from San Jose State. Prior to embarking on her career in real estate, Mary was a CPA with Peat Marwick and a tax accountant for Fritz & Company. Mary has lived in Northern Virginia since 1991, moving into Kings Park West in Fairfax, VA where she and her husband have raised three daughters.
With Mary’s extensive background in accounting, she naturally became the financial arm of the team. Adept at client presentations, she can walk even the most hesitant future buyer or seller through the complex processes required of real estate transactions. Her confidence puts buyers and sellers alike at ease.
Mary and Cathy focused initially and extensively on their home neighborhood of Kings Park West, developing a perfected system of home preparation and marketing. Their proven techniques now help homeowners in neighborhoods all over Northern Virginia sell homes quickly for top dollar, and help buyers find the home of their dreams. Over the next 13 years, Mary and Cathy grew the partnership to award winning levels, including a spot as one of Washingtonian Magazine’s Top 100 Real Estate Agents every year since 2015.
In 2019, Mary decided to reduce her workload, and now works part-time with the team, handling up to 12 transactions a year.
Wise words from Mary: Buyers should make two lists, a Must Have List and a Wish List, and focus on the Must Haves! Sellers should consider improvement expenditures if they will result in a greater net profit. Real estate can be a great investment.
